In contrast to what it seems, World Bread Day is much more than a celebration of the wide varieties of bread forms and flavors we love, the community of bread enthusiasts we are in, or the number we have shared over a cup of coffee with friends and family.

World Bread Day traces back to 2005, even 1945, as a response to the creation of the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations, recognizing the significance of bread as a staple food for most people since prehistoric times and its important, continuous role in global households.
